Support needed for our Charles St. Men’s Shelter Program!


Are you currently out of work or laid off temporarily due to COVID? We need you!


 We are seeking temporary additional help to work in the Men’s Shelter for a variety of roles including, day, afternoon and night shifts.


You will be provided with pre-employment and on-site orientation including health and safety. Personal protective equipment required for the role will be provided.


Your key Shelter Support responsibilities include:

  1. Connect with and support the men accessing the shelter
  2. Reception duties, answer incoming phone calls and emails
  3. Update and maintain database
  4. Ensure a safe environment for the men accessing the shelter and team members
  5. All team members at House of Friendship are responsible for working in a healthy and safe manner


We are also looking for individuals with leadership skills to help support our staff and volunteers.


Your skills and experience include:

  1. Related post-secondary education is an asset
  2. Must have exemplary emotional intelligence, communication and crisis management skills
  3. Understanding of human interactions usually attained by life experience and/or by related education
  4. Ability to relate and interact well with individuals including the men we serve and the people we work with
  5. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs 
  6. Aptitude for accurate and efficient computer data entry. Knowledge of Homeless Individuals & Families Information System (HIFIS4) database considered an asset but not required
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills
  8. Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  9. Experience of homelessness or relating with people experiencing homelessness, addictions, and/or mental health related issues
  10. Ability to work effectively with people of various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
  11. Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
  12. House of Friendship is open and inviting to qualified candidates with lived experience


Note: Working with and encountering participants who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected.
