Part-time Property Maintenance Attendant

YW Kitchener-Waterloo invites applications for


(permanent part-time, weekdays, unionized position)


Hours & Compensation:

 Hours: Maximum 32-hours per two-week pay period.

Shifts on weekdays (except Wednesdays) as required.

Pay Rate: $22.591 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits 

Start Date of: ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

You will offer ongoing support to our tenants by performing general caretaking and property maintenance tasks including (but not limited to):

  • Drywall repairs and painting
  • Light bulb replacement as needed
  • Minor maintenance, plumbing and carpentry repairs
  • Monthly checks of emergency lights and fire extinguishers
  • Striping and waxing of floors
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Assistance with the removal of garbage and recycling as required
  • Grounds maintenance (lawn mowing, flower beds weeding, occasional removal of snow and ice)

 Skills, Qualifications, & Requirements:

-  Mechanically inclined with basic skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.

-  Demonstrated experience in a previous role that held the same key responsibilities as listed above

-  Work is mainly of a physical nature. May be required to lift heavy items in excess of 100 lbs.

-  Work experience in or exposure to a shelter setting, is preferred

-  Conscientious and willing to take initiative

-  Able to follow both written and verbal instructions

- WHMIS training preferred

- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm

- Willing to provide Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, a driver’s abstract on a yearly basis,
and a Vulnerable Sector Police check.
